On the Menu: Public Speaking Open Mic
The best way to find your voice and confidence when public speaking is to speak publicly! There aren’t always opportunities to practice speaking in front of a safe audience and get constructive feedback.
In the Public Speaking Open Mic (not comedy, not poetry), our host will briefly share one or two lessons learned from over 1,000 speeches to help you increase your confidence, connection and clarity. You will then have the chance to either practice speaking or be a supportive audience member. If you volunteer to speak, you’ll walk away with constructive feedback and hopefully, more confidence! If you plan to join us as a supportive audience member, you will play a key role in this event! We will have feedback slips for you to write down helpful notes that the presenters will get to take home.
Speaker sign-up slots will open on event day at 11:30 a.m. at the registration table. We will have 8 speaker spots available for those of you who would like a chance to share. You will have the floor for 3 minutes so plan to bring something you want to practice- this can be your elevator pitch, your founder story, your workshop intro story, or a key point in your presentation. Ensure your talk fits into the 3-minute time limit and has a takeaway point for all of us.
Please note that this event will be in-person only due to the programming style.

What’s On The Menu?
At Frontier RTP, we are constantly growing, and hope you will come along for the ride! We developed On the Menu as a way of helping you and your business grow to the next level, whatever that next level may be.
Each month, we offer a lunchtime workshop on a special topic related to small businesses or startups. On the Menu is taught by a diverse group of experts from around the Triangle (some of whom started their business here at Frontier RTP!) in a small group setting.
We hope these workshops will not only be rich in content, but spark dialogue, start relationships, and make your lunch break meaningful. Did we mention there will be food? For those joining us in person, a free lunch will be available.
We want you to access our events and webinars easily. Feel free to reach out to us with accommodation requests at programming@rtp.org and we’ll do our best to facilitate.
Note: By registering and participating in this event, you consent to the recording of your likeness, image, and/or voice and authorize Frontier RTP to use photographs, video, and audio recordings containing your likeness, image, and/or voice in any medium for any purpose.
