What do you do when you start to dread work each day? If you’re the founders of Oak City Technology, you quit your job and start your own business doing what you love. Drago Bratic and Robert Sherwood met while in college at NC State, and decided to take the plunge and create their own web design company.

There are a few things that make Oak City Tech stand out in the world of web design and marketing. To start, part of the company’s mission is to give back to the community. Twenty-five percent of their work goes into pro-bono services for nonprofits, farmers markets and veteran groups. When our team met with them about moving into The Frontier, their pension for social entrepreneurship stood out.

They also happen to be experts on one of the hottest financial markets, Bitcoin. Oak City Tech became familiar with the currency, and believes in the value of this tool for ecommerce. Aside from coaching clients on how to best integrate Bitcoin into their web platforms, Oak City Tech has also partnered with experts to hold events to help educate the community on best practices surrounding the new way to pay. If you’re ever interested in attending an event, be sure to check out the NC Triangle Business and Bitcoin Meetup group.

Drago and Robert are also fantastic community members. Recently, they partnered with a member of the CloudFuz team (another company located in The Frontier), on a new fan site for the Carolina Hurricanes. Called Canes and Coffee, the guys from Oak City Tech helped Matt Karash take his online forum to the next level. Canes and Coffee premiered and has been getting some good attention. The popular Twitter account, New Raleigh, gave them some love right as the hockey season was starting.

If you’ve been thinking about moving your company to The Frontier, Oak City Tech is a great example of the model tenant. They’re not only producing great work, but they are also extremely engaged and proactive in helping to grow the community in Research Triangle Park. We certainly hope this is one job they never grow tired of!
