Frontier Fam Homemade Ice Cream Recap
Published Author Category Frontier RTP

Summer is here! To celebrate, our latest Frontier Fam Creatives installment taught our community how to make homemade ice cream. We don’t call it Frontier Fam for nothing; both adults and children enjoyed mixing up their concoctions. If you are interested in learning how to make your own homemade ice cream, follow the instructions below. It takes just a few minutes and serves as a great arm workout, too!

Gather your Supplies:

  • Measuring Cups (1c, 1/3c, Tbsp and Tsp)
  • Large bowl
  • Dishcloth or oven mitt
  • Two plastic zipper bags (one small and one large)

Gather Your Ingredients:

  • 1 c. half-and-half
  • 2 tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 3 c. ice
  • 1/3 c. kosher salt
  • Toppings of your choice

Step One

Combine half & half, sugar, and vanilla extract in the small bag. Seal carefully and set aside. Tip: You can substitute the vanilla extract with chocolate or strawberry sauce!

Step Two

Combine salt and ice in the larger bag.

Step Three

Place the small bag (still sealed) inside the larger bag and seal the larger bag. Use a cloth or oven mitt to hold the bags, and shake for seven to eight minutes. Turn on some music and dance to make it a fun exercise!

Step Four

Take the small bag out of the larger bag and rinse off the bag quickly with cold water. (This will help remove the salt from the outside). Set your bag down or hold over your bowl and push all your ice cream to the end that unzips.

Unzip the bag and empty the ice cream out into your bowl. Add your toppings and enjoy!
