On May 16, we invited Adam Silver of ConciergeWP and KitchenSinkWP to share his expertise on podcasting. While blogging and video-making have done wonders for many companies in the past, audio and video podcasts are the hottest platform out there today! There are some major pros: the equipment setup is not complicated, podcasting maintains a personal touch from your business to your audience, it allows listeners to engage whenever it’s convenient for them (like at the gym, when you’re cooking, driving your daily commute). All it takes is quality equipment, a good business plan and confidence in front of the microphone. If you want to learn more about the nitty-gritty of podcasting, keep reading for some key takeaways from Adam.

  1. The platform is increasing in popularity. 51% of US Population has listened to a podcast and podcast listening has grown 23% per year since 2017.
  2. Podcast growth is driven by mobility. Other than posting your audio online, you can also set it up on mobile apps such as Spotify, or Apple Podcasts. This will let your listeners access your podcast with convenience and integrate it in their daily lives.
  3. Podcasting will build a connection to your audience. Even if it seems like a one-sided conversation, expressing your opinions can still build a relationship with your listeners. Sharing your voice is a great way to build trust and be relatable.
  4. Recording your podcast in both audio and video form gives people the option to listen on the go, or watch your show when they have the time. The best part is that you can do both in one take!
  5. Always have a format for the show. Having a smooth flow of conversation will keep listeners engaged.
  6. Inviting a guest on your podcast is always great idea. Other than the added perspective, it also means marketing on two sets of accounts! You and your guests will make for twice as much exposure of the podcast.
  7. Many web hosts don’t have enough bandwidth to host your podcast, which can affect the quality of audio and video. Adam recommended investing in a podcast hosting service called Libsyn.
  8. Once your audience is built, you will be able to work with sponsors or affiliates. Another form of monetization is to set up a Patreon where loyal listeners can show their support through donations.
