If you haven’t heard yet, we are adding some spice to one of our usual Thursday Happy Hours. We are extending it May 2 from 4:00-6:30 p.m. to host our Crafted at Frontier RTP maker’s market! This fourth annual event is one of the ways we give back to our community. We love supporting Triangle-based businesses, and have invited over 40 local makers & DIYers to sell their masterpieces. Crafted vendors have also pledged to donate 15% of their proceeds to Susan G. Komen NC Triangle to the Coast.
Until then, I will be sharing fun facts about some of our amazing vendors! Whether they are full-timers or side-hustlers, there’s no doubt that they are passionate about what they do. We cannot wait to showcase them at Crafted, so be sure to save the date!
Company: SKP Ink
Mastermind: Sarah Plonk
Q: Give me a three-sentence elevator pitch about your business.
A: SKP Ink is a small business out of North Raleigh. Our motto is “Bad Jokes by Good People.” We aim to bring laughs to the world via hand drawn designs and silly, sometimes sassy, sayings.
Q: If you were a salad dressing, what kind would you be and why?
A: Lemon Parmesan. Cheesy with a little sass.
Q: Tell us a story about an experience that left you feeling like you had succeeded with your business?
A: Hitting 1000 Etsy sales was a big day for me!
Company: Just a Tish
Mastermind: Tish McDermott
Q: How did you come up with the idea for your business?
A: I got tired of going to department stores and trying to find a jewelry accent to go with my wardrobe. Not because they weren’t beautiful, but because they were mass produced. There was no meaning to the jewelry. I have always worked with crystals, so why not make jewelry that is a one of a kind AND has meaning?
Q: Tell us a story about an experience that left you feeling like you had succeeded with your business.
A: I was randomly chosen to be interviewed for an online magazine at Bonnaroo, and the interviewer asked about my social media presence. As soon as I mentioned my Instagram handle, a stranger who was walking by stopped to say he is one of my followers! He gave me a hug and even had one of my pendants!
Q: Where do you draw inspiration?
A: Everything around me. I love the shapes and textures of anything natural or man-made. Music is a good source of inspiration for me too. Even my dreams – I dream about jewelry and tie dye all the time!
Company: DebbieDuckYarn
Mastermind: Debra Siegel
Q: Give me a three-sentence elevator pitch about your business.
A: I am an independent yarn dyer based in Fuquay Varina, NC. My products are imaginative, hand-dyed yarns for passionate fiber artists such as knitters, crocheters, weavers and machine knitters. My yarns include natural wools, alpaca, silks, cottons, linens, flax and hemp. Sharing my knowledge and creativity through yarn with others fuels my passion for DebbieDuckYarns.
Q: Where do you draw inspiration?
A: I love color! I’m always looking at my surroundings for new ideas, no matter where I am. Sometimes it’s the changing of the leaves and sometimes it’s the bright, bold colors of the Fiestaware dishes in my kitchen cabinets.
Q: Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
Q: My prior professional career included selling radioactive chemicals and this is actually how I met my husband. We’ve been lovingly driving each other nuts ever since!
