Whether you frequent The Frontier every week or only come every once in a while, you have probably noticed that we have a little community garden by the back entrance. Or, maybe you have noticed the group of people tending the garden on Thursdays around lunchtime. Last year the garden grew to be huge, and was overflowing with tomatoes, pumpkins, squash, cucumbers, wild flowers, and herbs.
Everyone is welcome!This year we are back in action! For the spring season we have planted kale, Swiss chard, arugula, carrots, and lettuce. We have also added two new beds of wildflowers in an effort to help attract pollinators. Our irrigation methods have also been stepped up! They are now on a self-timer, making watering an easier task.
Interested in getting your hands dirty? Here are some options:
- Help us install milkweed plugs to help attract monarch butterflies
- Work to install and grow a dedicated “pollinator garden” that will increase the natural biodiversity on The Frontier’s campus
- Replant our indoor grow panels – they could really use some love!
- Drying herbs
Show off your green thumb! We are partnering with The Farmery, our onsite café, to host a tomato growing competition. There will be prizes for biggest, boldest (most unique, but we couldn’t resist the alliteration) and beautiful-est. Be sure to stop by The Frontier to pick up your registration packet on Wednesday, 4/27, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
